University Application Checklist

What to prepare before applications open and what to verify before you submit.

FundaWay Learning Guide • Reviewed 22 August 2026

A good application starts before the application form opens. Early preparation gives you time to compare programmes, confirm requirements, collect documents and correct mistakes before a deadline.

1. Build a programme shortlist

For each programme, record the institution, qualification name, campus if relevant, duration, required subjects, minimum levels, APS method and application closing date. Include realistic alternatives rather than applying to only one highly competitive programme.

2. Verify current entry requirements

Use the official institution website or current prospectus. Requirements can change between academic years. Do not rely only on screenshots, old prospectuses or a friend’s previous application.

3. Prepare your documents

4. Use an email address you control

Your application email is often used for status updates, document requests and password recovery. Check the inbox and spam folder regularly. Do not rely on an address that another person controls.

5. Before pressing Submit

  1. Check spelling of your name and identification details.
  2. Confirm programme codes and campus choices.
  3. Check that uploaded files are readable and correct.
  4. Review contact details.
  5. Read the declaration before accepting it.
  6. Save the application reference number or confirmation.

6. After submission

Track the application on the institution’s official portal. Respond to legitimate document requests and keep your contact details up to date. An application may remain pending for some time; do not interpret silence as automatic acceptance or rejection.
